Y-Ting Lin

Lab Introduction & Major Research Interests

Dr. Yi-Ting Lin is a visiting psychiatrist of the Department of Psychiatry, National Taiwan University Hospital. As a member of the research team which focuses on schizophrenia, his major research interests are applying different neuroimaging tools to study the genetics and neural mechanisms of auditory mismatch negativity (MMN) deficit of schizophrenia. Auditory MMN is an EEG event-related potential and has been demonstrated to be a promising endophenotype of schizophrenia. Dr. Lin and his colleagues have found MMN deficits of Taiwanese schizophrenia patients in several studies. Candidate-gene association analyses revealed potential association between MMN and GRIN3B and PRODH. Moving forward, Dr. Lin conducted a genome-wide association study on MMN of healthy subjects and schizophrenia patients, and he is now recruiting an independent sample to validate the results. For the neural mechanisms of MMN, Dr. Lin applies time-frequency analysis and source localization to analyze the EEG signals, fMRI to study regional brain activities responding to the generation of MMN, and recently transcranial magnetic stimulation to modulate MMN. Dr. Lin is also currently conducting a three-year project which integrates genetics, event-related potentials, fMRI and magnetic resonance spectroscopy to study the glutamatergic and GABAergic neurotransmission of early schizophrenia.
