Lab Introduction & Major Research Interests

The research focuses of our laboratory is on neuromuscular dynamics and deep muscle control of spinal motion with specific interest in spinal stability, fascia network and neural plasticity in relation to chronic low back pain and neck pain. Based on the bio-psycho-social model of chronic pain, we examine the control strategy of deep core muscle of the trunk of patients with chronic spinal pain. The issue we address is the interaction of activation of the deep muscle and the cortex plasticity. The strategy of our approach is to train core muscle and examine the bio-psycho change of the patients. Ultrasound imaging was used to examine the activation of the deep core muscle. We have established the reliability of measuring the deep trunk muscles. The effect of core muscle training in muscle activation and its relation with cognitive change of the participants were our interests.
