As a psychiatrist with heavy clinical loads, my main research interests focus on the putative pre-psychotic state and early stage of psychosis. During past 12 years, our team in schizophrenia research has followed up a cohort of this heterogeneous population to investigate what might be happening around the incipient of psychosis from clinical, neurocognitive, neurobiological, and even genetic perspectives. Currently more efforts are invested in clinical trials for novel agents aiming at treating negative symptoms and cognitive symptoms of schizophrenia. My role in our research team is 1) mental health education/campaign for case recruitment; 2) clinical follow-up for patients at early stage of psychosis; 3) continuing observation on a longitudinal cohort, including retrieving those who lost of follow-up from our system; 4) participating in study design and execution of clinical trials testing new agents; 5) initiating a new observational study regarding “guided dose reduction” of antipsychotic treatment in a group of remitted psychosis patients; while these patients may serve as participants in relevant neurocognitive studies on this special population.
